The Bachelor of Science (Honours) Management (International Studies) (Top-up) programme will suit you if you are interested in the international dimension of organisations’ economic, financial and investment operations. This course aims to promote critical awareness of the merits and complexities of management and to instill an appreciation of the association between theory and practice. It aims to introduce you to important new developments in the field of management and to enable you to develop appropriate practical and transferable skills.

Mode of Delivery

The programmes are based on The University of Manchester’s full-time Bachelor of Science (Honours) structure. Students who have attained the appropriate Polytechnic Business-related Diploma (or equivalent) qualification will be admitted into the Second Year of the three year programme. Consequently, only the course units from the Second and Final Years of The University of Manchester degree programmes are conducted in Singapore.

The course is conducted at the well-equipped SIM campus.

A total of 12 units, 6 course units in the Second Year and the remaining 6 in the Final Year will be studied. Each unit constitutes 20 credits and comprises 50 contact hours, and are essentially the same as those offered in The University of Manchester.

Students are to undertake the study of 3 modules per semester over 4 semesters.

Modules are delivered one at a time i.e. modular structure, over a period of 6 weeks, with lectures conducted 3 to 6 hours each and tutorials at 3 to 3.5 hours each.

  • Week 1: Intensive lectures by Faculty (week nights and weekend)
  • Week 2-5: Tutorials by Seminar Leader (2 week nights or 1 week night and Saturday per week)
  • Week 6: Revision and Exam on Saturday
  • Week 7: Break and New Unit Commencement on Saturday

Year 2 & 3 Unit Synopsis

Academic Writing Skills

Students are required to complete and submit a compulsory Formative Essay assignment for Academic Writing Skills in Year 2.

Final Year at Home Campus

Students have the option to complete Final Year at the home campus in the UK. The University’s requirements apply.

Candidature Period

The programme is designed to be completed in 2 years. Students may take up to 4 years to complete the programme.

Students who do not complete the programme requirements within the candidature will not be entitled to any recourse or refund.

Minimum Class Size

Minimum to commence: 50 students

If take-up rate does not meet the minimum to commence, students will be informed within 1 month before programme commencement.

Candidates must obtain an average Grade B. Results close to Grade B average will be considered subject to interview.

English Proficiency Requirement

  • Minimum of C6 pass in English as First Language at GCE ‘O’ Level; or
  • TOEFL (iBT): total score of 90 (at least a score of 22 per component); or
  • IELTS 6.5 overall (at least 6.0 in each band)

Diploma holders from non-business streams can be admitted into the programme subject to the University’s approval upon completion and passing a 3-month Preparatory Course in Business which is conducted in May and November.

Assessments & Exams

Course units are assessed either by written exam, or combination of coursework and written exam. The exams are normally held every 2 months.

Attendance Requirement

Compulsory for all lectures and seminars.

Progression to Final Year

Student has to satisfy the following requirements:

  • Reach the pass mark (40%) in individual course units totalling at least 80 credits of the 120 credits for that year; and,
  • Reach the lowest compensatable mark (30%) in all remaining course units (maximum of 40 credits)

Award & Graduation

Overall marks are based on 33% of Year 2 average marks and 67% of Year 3 average marks.

The final degree of Honours classification is based on:

  • Class 1 (First class), not less than 70.0%
  • Class 2i (Upper second class), less than 70.0% but not less than 60.0%
  • Class 2ii (Lower second class), less than 60.0% but not less than 50.0%
  • Class 3 (Third class), less than 50.0% but not less than 40.0%

In addition, students need to satisfy the following requirement to attain first and second class Honours degrees:

  • Reach the pass mark (40%) in individual course units totalling at least 80 credits of the 120 credits required for the Final Year (4 out of 6 Final Year subjects)

For third class Honours degree, students need to satisfy the following requirement:

  • Reach the pass mark (40%) in individual course units totalling at least 60 credits of the 120 credits required for the Final Year (3 out of 6 Final Year subjects)
