Programme Objective

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Sport Business Management has been designed to meet the sporting industry’s requirement for technically competent, customer oriented, commercially minded practitioners who have the flexibility and capability to apply their skills and knowledge in a variety of customer oriented environments in both domestic and the international market place. This will involve integrating sports science, management, professional and transferable skills.

The degree programme will be targeted at suitably qualified applicants working or intending to work in the sports industry. This will include Polytechnics Diploma holders, direct applicants and holders of other relevant qualifications.

Graduates can apply for Stirling’s taught postgraduate programmes including, Master of Science Sport Management (with internship).

Able to apply sound analytical techniques, underpinning scientific principles and management skills to the challenges faced by the sports related industries. Mode of Delivery

Year 1: Two semesters a year. Classes may be conducted in the days and/or evenings with a structured curriculum of six modules.

Year 2 & Year 3: Two semesters a year. Classes may be conducted in the days and/or evenings with a structured curriculum of nine modules and a work-based project.

Mode of Study

Year 1: Face-to-face lectures and/or tutorials may be conducted by local lecturers on given days over 13 sessions per module. Part-time students who are unable to attend the classes will have access to the e-learning platform. The class schedule is subject to availability.

 

Year 2 & Year 3: Teaching centres on face-to-face lectures and tutorials delivered on block teaching basis. 

Lectures may be scheduled from 12.00pm to 6.30pm or 3.30pm – 10pm on given days over two weeks per module, with breaks in between sessions. Part-time students who are unable to attend the full lectures will have access to the e-learning platform. The lecture schedule is subject to availability.

Tutorials for the same module may be conducted by local tutors over three weeks, scheduled either between Monday and Friday at three hours per session, from 7pm to 10pm, and/or on Saturdays from 8:30am to 11:30am or 12pm to 3pm.

Module Synopsis

Exchange Semester at Stirling

Students can choose to attend the Year 3 first semester at the University of Stirling home campus in the UK. Students are expected to complete modules equivalent of 60 credits in the UK. The experience enhances the global outlook and mind-set of students, and prepares them to work better in a global economy.

The programme fee is exclusive of airfares, accommodation and expenses related to the exchange semester at Stirling.  

Duration/Candidature Period

Duration of programme: Three years

Candidature Period: Four years

Students who did not complete the programme by the candidature period will not be entitled to any recourse or refund.

Minimum Class Size

Minimum to commence: 50 students

If take-up rate does not meet the minimum to commence, students will be informed within one month before class starts.

 

 

 

 

Entry Requirements

1.  GCE 'A' level passes.

2.  International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or other equivalent pre-university certificates.

3.  Applicants with the following Diplomas may be eligible for exemption to Year 1 of the Programme.

·         Diploma in Health Management and Promotion (with Marketing Elective)

Note: All admissions are based on merit and are subject to the final approval of the University. Other qualifications deemed relevant may be considered.

Applicants with a Non-Sports and/or Non-Business Studies may be admitted into the programme subject to the approval of the University. Applicants may be required to pass a 3-month Preparatory Course in Sports Studies and Marketing.

English Proficiency Requirement

Students must have acceptable level of competency in English Language and meet one of the following in addition to an approved diploma:

  • Minimum C6 pass in English as First Language at GCE ‘O’ Level; or
  • TOEFL 567 (paper-based) or 87 (iBT) with Reading 22, Writing 21, Listening 21, Speaking 23; or
  • IELTS 6.0 overall (no band less than 5.5); or
  • Successful completion of a recognized approved Diploma, where the language of instruction was English

Assessment is based on combination of coursework and exams.

End-of-semester main exam is normally in December and May. The assessment schedule is subject to change by the University.

Students are allowed to progress through each semester till they satisfactorily complete the graduation requirements.

Award & Graduation

To successfully complete fifteen (15) modules and a Sport Business Management work-based project to obtain a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Sport Business Management Degree.
